Bulletin of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, Division of chemical science Aims and scope

Conclusions

  1. 1.

The hydrolysis of octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane was investigated by the GLC and PMR methods in aqueous solutions of hydrochloric, sulfuric, and phosphoric acids in a broad range of concentrations and temperatures under heterogeneous conditions.

  2. 2.

The average size of the drops in the reaction mixture during mixing was determined experimentally.

  3. 3.

    The reaction products were identified.

  4. 4.

Hydrolysis of octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane proceeds according to an SN2 mechanism.
