Determination of the configuration of acyclic isoprenoids by13C NMR spectroscopy

Conclusions

  1. 1.

    A study has been made of the13C NMR spectra of isomeric Z,Z-, Z,E-, E,Z-, and E,E-arnesols, farnesyl bromides, and ethyl farnesenates, and also of oligomeric silyl ethers (V)-(IX) prepared by ozonolysis and further conversion of natural rubber.

  2. 2.

    Criteria are proposed for identifying Z- and E-isoprene units in polyisoprenoids.

  3. 3.

    The thermal stability of the Z configuration of isoprenoid units in the ozonolysis products of natural rubber is confirmed.
