Conclusions
-
1.
Photoisomerization of the polymethine dyes proceeds from the zeroth vibrational sub-level of the excited singlet state of the isomer, being realized through the S *trans ⇝ So,cis; S *cis ⇝ So,trans radiationless transitions.
-
2.
The assumption of similarity of the absorption spectra of the dye isomers is usually quite consistent with the experimental data, and can be used to determine the spectral characteristics of the photoisomers.
-
3.
Theoretical methods of determining the quantum yield in photoisomerization have been developed, and their validity confirmed experimentally.
