The 3,3-dichloro-1-carbomethoxy-4,4-bis-(p-chlorophenyl)butyl radicals, generated by the reaction of 1,1,1-trichloro-2,2-di-(p-chlorophenyl)ethane with methyl acrylate in the presence of Fe(CO)5+DMF, form the substituted tetrahydronaphthalene in high yield as the result of oxidative cyclization.
