1.
A mechanism is proposed for the decomposition of cumenyl hydroperoxide in the presence of catalytic amounts of complexes of divalent copper with o-phenanthroline (o-P). It is suggested that the main role in the decomposition mechanism is played by charge-transfer complexes between a compound of monovalent copper and the hydroperoxide.

The relation between the rate constant for the decomposition of the initially formed hydroperoxide complex [CuSt2· (o-P)·ROOH] and the probability of radical decomposition of the hydroperoxide into a complex with monovalent copper and the ratio of the rate constants for the reaction of the charge-transfer complex Cu(II)δ+·(o-P)·ROOHδ- with ROOH and a molecule of the catalyst were determined.
