Conclusions

  1. 1.

A convenient and simple method was developed for obtaining the methyl esters of polyunsaturated carboxylic acids by the cleavage of arylβ-carbomethoxy-β'-mono- and bis-2,7-octadienylmethyl sulfones using either Na/Hg or EtONa.

  2. 2.

It was shown for the first time that the bis-octadienyl derivatives of arylβ-carbomethoxymethyl sulfones can be obtained from butadiene and arylβ-carbomethoxymethyl sulfones on the catalyst system: Pd (acac)2-(C6H5)3P-(C2H5)Al.
