Summary
A critical examination ofDinkel's comment reveals that his arguments put forward against the empirical test of the vote maximizing hypothesis inHubka-Obermann have to be rejected. In the process of empirical verification of political business cycles, some alternative hypotheses proposed byDinkel may turn out to be useful. But they do not in themselves alter the methods applied nor the empirical findings inHubka-Obermann.
