Steric structure of N-arylsuccinimides and N-arylphthalimides

Conclusions

The steric structure of N-arylimides is determined by the steric interactions between the carbonyl oxygen and the hydrogen atoms in the ortho positions, and is independent of the π-electron character of the imide ring and the substitution in the aromatic radical.
