Conclusions
-
1.
Benzophenone in an alcohol medium is a sensitizer for the photoreduction of transition metal ions with a low oxidation-reduction potential (V3+, Cr3+, Eu3+).
-
2.
The irradiation of benzophenone solutions in the presence of the above indicated ions and Adams Pt causes the efficient catalytic liberation of molecular hydrogen, accompanied by oxidation of the alcohol. A mechanism is proposed for the studied photoreaction.
