Conclusions
-
1.
Rate constants have been measured for the recombinational desorption of theα andβ forms of nitrogen from the platinum surface.
-
2.
A mechanism for the recombination of theα form of nitrogen has been proposed on the assumption that excited nitrogen molecules will form on the Pt surface.
-
3.
The method of isotopic displacement of14N and15N atoms has been used to show that the platinum surface is nonuniform with respect to the adsorption of theα form of nitrogen.
