Conclusions

We have prepared tetrakin(bromoacetylacetonato)zirconium and tetrakis(bromoacetylacetonato)hafnium by the action of N-bromosuccinimide on the metal tetrakis(acetylacetonates); in the presence of benzoyl peroxide the reaction forms unsymmetrical tetrachelates of zirconium and hafnium containing three brominated and one unsubstituted acetylacetonate ligands.

We report the IR and UV spectra of the synthetic compounds.
