Conclusions
-
1.
The interaction between triethylaluminum and 2,2′-dipyridyl is not restricted to the formation of a donor-acceptor complex, but results in the formation of compounds of the aluminum amide type.
-
2.
The existence of a direct co-relation between the rate of the irreversible reaction and the catalytic activity of the system provides some basis to attribute the observed effect to the appearance of alkylaluminum amides.
