The problem of using UV and Raman spectra to study p-π coupling

Conclusions

  1. 1.

Measurements have been made of the Raman line intensities at 1600 cm−1, and electronic spectra developed for diphenyl and triphenyl derivatives of group V and VIb elements, respectively.

  2. 2.

Neither the change in intensity of the Raman line, nor the alteration of the spectral characteristics of the long-wave UV band, can be used as measures of the degree of p-π coupling in the above derivatives, the monophenyl derivatives of group V–VI elements, or the phenyl derivatives of group VII elements.
