Treatment of perfluoroisobutylene with various halides resulted in the exchange of fluoride for chlorine.

A method was developed for the synthesis of the monochloro- and monobromoperfluoroisobutylenes.

Substitution of chlorine for fluorine at the multiple bond of perfluoroisobutylene lowers the reactivity of the fluoroolefin toward nucleophilic reagents.
