Homogeneous chlorodimethyl sulfoxide catalysts of palladium and rhodium

Conclusions

  1. 1.

    A method was described for the production of homogeneous catalysts from inactive chlorodimethyl sulfoxide complexes of Pd(II) and Rh(III) by lowering the oxidation state of the metal with sodium borohydride and stabilizing it with dimethyl sulfoxide.

  2. 2.

    It was shown for PdCl2(DMSO)2 that in the reduced complex the ligands — DMSO — are bonded to Pd both through sulfur atoms and through oxygen. The manifestation of catalytic properties by the complex after treatment with sodium borohydride is evidently associated with an increase in the lability of the ligands, due to a redistribution and loosening of the intrasphere bonds.
