The role of anion-radicals of p-nitrochlorobenzene and of oxygen in the formation of p-nitrophenol by the interaction of p-nitrochlorobenzene with sodium methylate

Conclusions

  1. 1.

    We discovered an S-shaped character for the kinetics of buildup of p-nitrophenolate, and an effect of oxygen on the rate of formation of p-nitrophenolate, in the reaction of p-nitrochlorobenzene with sodium methylate.

  2. 2.

    A scheme has been proposed for the formation of p-nitrophenolate, with the participation of anion radicals of p-nitrochlorobenzene and oxygen. Formation of anion radicals of p-nitrochlorobenzene is a reaction proceeding in parallel with the substitution reaction.
