New nitrogen-containing derivatives of cellulose

Summary

  1. 1.

    We have carried out for the first time the condensation of dialdehydocellulose with nitromethane in an aqueous alkali medium and have obtained new derivatives of cellulose which contain the NO2 group.

  2. 2.

    The resulting preparation with a nitrogen content from 3.4 to 4.96% retains its fibrous structure, strength, and elasticity.
