Conclusions
The reaction for the selective hydrogenation of isoprene on a palladium catalyst at low temperatures is accomplished mainly on a small portion of the surface via the rapid formation of the surface isoprene compound in the undissociated form, with the subsequent slow steps of its conversion to the semihydrogenated form, and then to isopentenes.
