    An improved method of synthesis has been developed for 3-(4-methoxyphenyl)cyclohexene-2-one-1.

     
  2. 2.

    From the diene condensation of this compound with maleic anhydride there was isolated only the product of addition of two moles of the dienophile to one mole of the diene.
