Conversions of n-nonadecane and eicosane in a flow system over metal oxide catalysts under hydrogen pressure

  • Published:
Bulletin of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, Division of chemical science Aims and scope

Summary

  1. 1.

The catalytic conversion of normal nonadecane and of eicosane in the presence of 0.5% Pt—Al2O3, 0.5% Pd-Al2O3, 0.5% Pt- “gumbrin“, and 0.5% Pd- “gumbrin“ at 450‡ in a flow system under a pressure of 30 atm of hydrogen was studied.

  2. 2.

On catalytic treatment these hydrocarbons undergo profound changes in the direction of isomerization, dehydrocyclization and hydrocracking. The products of catalysis so obtained are characterized by a higher calorific value and a decrease in the temperature of solidification by 20–46‡.

  3. 3.

0.5% Pt-“gumbrin“ and 0.5% Pd-“gumbrin“ are more active catalysts in effecting the reactions mentioned than are 0.5% Pt-Al2O3 and 0.5% Pd-Al2O3.
