Summary

  1. 1.

It is shown that styrene and α-methylstyrene can be polymerized in the solid (frozen) state.

  2. 2.

The rate of polymerization depends on the area of contact of the surface of solid monomer with gaseous BF3 and on the pressure of the BF3.
