Summary

  1. 1.

Methods of synthesizing 1-(1-alkoxyethyl)-2-pyrrolidinones were studied. By reaction between 2-pyrrolidinone and alkyl 1-chloroethyl ethers, we obtained 1-(1-butoxyethyl)- and 1-(1-ethoxyethyl)-2-pyrrolidinones and 1,1′-ethylidenedi-2-pyrrolidinone.

  2. 2.

The thermal decomposition of 1-(1-butoxyethyl)-2-pyrrolidinone gave 1-vinyl-2-cyrrolidinone and butyl alcohol, the decomposition of 1-(1-isopropoxyethyl)-2-pyrrolidinone gave 2-pyrrolidinone, isopropyl alcohol, and 1,1′-ethylidenedi-2-pyrrolidinone, and the decomposition of 1,1′-ethylidenedi-2-pyrrolidinone gave 2-pyrrolidinone and a resinous residue.
