Summary
-
1.
A study was made of the polymerizabilities of N-o-, N-m-, and N-p-alkoxyphenylmethacrylamides. It was shown that the ortho isomers of these compounds polymerize much more readily than the meta and para isomers.

2.
The infrared absorption spectra of the isomers synthesized were investigated in the 2.8–3.2 μ region. It was shown that an intermolecular hydrogen bond exists in the meta and para isomers; in the ortho isomers this bond is absent. The lower polymerizabilities of the meta and para isomers is to be explained by the existence of an intermolecular hydrogen bond in these compounds.
