Summary
-
1.
In the roasting of quartz above 500°, isolated surface OH groups may dissociate with formation of hydrogen. About 10% of the possible limiting content of hydroxyls on the quartz surface dissociates in this way.
-
2.
In the roasting of silica gel under these conditions, only the liberation of water is observed, which is possible only when we assume surface migration of protons.
