Abstract
7.7′-Spiro-bi[3]ferrocenophane-6.6′-dion (3) was partially resolved by chromatography on partially acetylated cellulose (optical yield appr. 10%). Optical resolution was also achieved (with optical yields of appr. 33%) by kinetic resolution of thecis,cis-diol4 a (easily accessible by reduction of3) with (+)-α-phenylbutyric anhydride and oxidation to3. From the results the absolute configurations and optical purities of3 and4 a could be deduced: (−)-(7S)-3 and (+)-(6S,6′S)-4 a, resp.; [α]D max1070o and 115o resp. These values were confirmed by application of theNMR-method to4 a-bis(O-methylmande late). The circular dichroism of these spiro compounds in the region of the “ferrocene absorption band” (around 440 nm) was recorded and is discussed.
(+)-(6S,6′S)-4 a; [α]D max 1070o bzw. 115o.
