Abstract
The mechanism of migration of sodium in the positive column of a low-pressure discharge at a frequency of 25–400 Hz is studied. It is established that the mass transfer of sodium in the discharge channel results from diffusion of sodium atoms and ions in the electric field. It is shown that as the grid frequency increases the amplitude of the oscillatory motion of sodium ions decreases. The possibility of restricting the migration of sodium along the discharge tube by creating an artificial temperature drop in it is confirmed.
