Summary

  1. 1.

A relationship was obtained which holds, subject to some provisos, between the changes, due to the adsorption of gas molecules, in the conductivity and work function of a semiconductor. On the basis of this relationship, a method is proposed for the experimental separation of the contributions made to the change in the work function by adsorbed molecules in the neutral and in the charged states.

  2. 2.

The method is based on parallel measurements of the changes in conductivity and work function during adsorption.
