Communication 4. Reaction of ethyllithium with titanium trichloride

Summary

  1. 1.

    Ethyllithium reacts with titanium trichloride at low temperatures with formation of ethane, ethylene, and butane; the composition of the gas is determined by the relative amounts of the reactants.

  2. 2.

    Titanium halides catalyze the decomposition of ethyllithium into ethylene and lithium hydride.
