Tautomerism and geometric isomerism of nitrogen-containing derivatives of carbonyl compounds

Communication 5. Polarographic study of semicarbazones and thiosemicarbazones of aromatic aldehydes

  • Published:
Bulletin of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, Division of chemical science Aims and scope

Summary

  1. 1.

A study was made of the polarographic behavior of the semicarbazones and thiosemicarbazones of benzaldehyde, p-isopropylbenzaldehyde, p-dimethyl-aminobenzaldehyde, salicyladehyde, and o-, m-, and p-nitrobenzaldehydes. and it was shown that two electrons take part in their reduction.

  2. 2.

The effect of the structures of semicarbazones and thiosemicarbazones on the ease of reduction at a dropping mercury electrode is explained from the point of view of modern concepts on the structure of organic compounds.
