Summary
-
1.
As the number of chlorine atoms on the silicon and in the alkyl chains of alkylchlorosilanes increases there is a regular increase in the electronization (increase in effective electron density) of the corresponding C-H bonds.
-
2.
Anomalies found in various investigations in the chlorination of chloro (methyl)- and chloro (chloromethyl)-silanes, as compared with the subsequent members of their homologous series and with their carbon analogs, were not confirmed. It should rather be considered that the course of the chlorination of chloro (chloromethyl)methanes is anomalous and that the anomaly is the result of complicating steric hindrance.
