Abstract
The UV spectra of the phosphines (C6H5)2P[C6H4] n P(C6H5)2,n=1–4, and their oxides are communicated and compared to the spectra of triphenylphosphine and (C6H5)3PO. The introduction of two diphenylphosphino groups in 4-position of oligophenyls gives a strong, and of two diphenylphosphinyl groups a small oxides at the longest wave length may be interpreted from the spectra of the oligophenyls as the primary band. From this interpretation also the presence or absence of a fine-structure in the spectra of phosphine oxides may be understood.
