On reaction of equimolecular amounts of an alkyl(or aryl)dihaloborine with ethanethiol, an alkane(or arene)-halothioboronic ester, a new type of organic compound of boron, is formed.

Alkanehalothioboronic esters may be prepared by the reaction of alkanedithioboronic esters and boron halides.

Alkyldihaloborines react with alkanedithioboronic esters with formation of alkanehalothioboronic esters.

In alkanehalothioboronic esters the halogen atom is more mobile than the alkylthio group.
