Summary
-
1.
We have made a quantitative comparison of various reagents for determining ethylene oxide in dilute aqueous solutions according to the Deckert-Lubatti method.
-
2.
KI+HI and Na2S2O3 can determine 97–100 and 76–78% ethylene oxide, respectively.
-
3.
For mixed aqueous solutions of ethylene oxide, acetaldehyde, and formaldehyde we recommend the reagents: KI+HI (to determine ethylene oxide), hydroxylamine hydrochloride (sum of aldehydes) and Schiffs reagent (formaldehyde).
