Conclusions

  1. 1.

    The mass spectra of monosubstituted benzilidineanilines RC6H4CH=NPh (I: R=p-NO2, m-NO2, m-NO2, m-Br, m-Cl, p-Cl, H, p-OCH3, p-OH, p-NMe2) and RC6H4N=CHPh (II: R=m-NO2, p-Br, p-Cl, m-Cl, p-Ph, p-OCH3, p-OH, p-CH3) were studied, and the basic pathways of decomposition of their molecular ions were established.

     
  2. 2.

    The Brown correlation equation is applicable for the decomposition of the molecular ions of the monosubstituted benzilidineanilines studied, forming the ion Ph\(\mathop N\limits^ + \)≡CH.

     
  3. 3.

    On the basis of an analysis of the kinetic equations of the decomposition of molecular ions, we established the sequence of formation of fragment ions.

     
  4. 4.

    The deviation of the kinetic constants k2/k5 (RC6H4+\(\underleftarrow {k_2 }\)RC6H4C≡\(\mathop N\limits^ + \)Ph+) was found for a comparison of the influence of the substituent upon the cleavage of the Ph′-C(Ph′=RC6H4) and Ph-N bonds.
