Summary
-
1.
The hydrogenolysis of n-heptane, 3-methylhexane, 2,4-dimethylpentane, and 2,2-dimethylpentane on a 10% Ni-Al2O3 catalyst at 360° and a hydrogen pressure of 20 atm was investigated.
-
2.
A relation was found between the position of preferential hydrogenolysis of C-C bonds in the molecules of these alkanes and their skeletal structure. In molecules of branched alkanes, C-C bonds at the greatest distance from the tertiary and quaternary carbon atoms underwent hydrogenolysis preferentially.
