Summary

  1. 1.

An investigation was made of the dehydrogenation of C6 paraffins at 500° with a space velocity of 0.5 hr−1 over an alumina-chromia-potassia catalyst which had previously been shown to have high activity for the dehydrogenation of pentane and isopentane.

  2. 2.

2-Methylpentane, 3-methylpentane, and 2,3-dimethylbutane are dehydrogenated with formation of the corresponding C6 olefins in yields of 32–40% on the catalyzate. Under certain conditions the experimental yields of C6 olefins are close to the equilibrium values.

  3. 3.

In the dehydrogenation of 2,2-dimethylbutane 15% of unsaturated hydrocarbons is formed in the catalyzate, and of this about one-half consists of products of the isomerization of the carbon skeleton.
