Potentials of Pt and Au electrodes in HNO3 and NaNO3solutions under the action of ionizing radiation

  • Published:
Bulletin of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, Division of chemical science Aims and scope

Summary

  1. 1.

The changes in potential of platinum and gold electrodes in nitric acid and sodium nitrate solutions under the action of x-radiation were studied.

  2. 2.

From the nature of the dose dependence of the potential at various concentrations and acidities of the solution and with various dose strengths it follows that the establishment of the potential involves both products from radiation conversions of nitrate ions and, in the case of a platinum electrode, a product from primary radiolysis of water, namely, molecular hydrogen.
