Summary
The reaction of bis(chloromethyl)phosphonic acid with aminoacetic acid which leads to the formation of N-methyl-N-carboxymethylaminomethylphosphonic acid was studied, and a reaction scheme was suggested which included the formation and subsequent opening of a four-membered 1,3-phosphetidine ring.
