Summary
-
1.
Adducts of ethyl, propyl, and butyl abietates with maleic anhydride have been obtained.
-
2.
The thermal decomposition of the adducts of abietic acid and methyl, ethyl, propyl, and butyl abietates with maleic anhydride leads to dehydroabietic acid and the corresponding dehydroabietates, the decarboxylation of which leads to the formation of hydrocarbons.
-
3.
The thermal decomposition of the adducts of abietic acid and propyl and butyl abietates may be used for the preparation of dehydroabietic acid and propyl and butyl dehydroabietates, respectively.
