A study has been made of the action of water on zirconium triacetylacetonate chloride, zirconium tribenzoylacetonate nitrate, zirconium isopropoxytriacetylacetonate, and the chlorides iron diacetyl- and dibenzoylacetonate. In all cases a disproportionation reaction took place, leading to the formation of zirconium tetraacetylacetonates or tetrabenzoylacetonates, or of iron triacetylacetonates or tribenzoylacetonates.

By the interaction of ethyl orthotitanate and acetic anhydride, taken in 1∶2 mole ratio, there was obtained crystalline tetraacetoxytetraethoxytrititanoxane (CH3CO2)4(C2H5O)4 Ti3O2.
