Summary

1.
An SR group directly connected to a C=C double bond decreases the C=C frequency and evidently lowers the rigidity of this bond; at the same time it increases the frequency of the C=C triple bond. The SR group has a stronger effect than the OR group on the C=C and Cs C frequencies and on the optical parameters of the molecule.

2.
Steric hindrance should have a smaller value in alkylvinylsulfide molecules than in vinyl ethers. The alkylvinylsulfide molecules are most likely to exist as the planar S-trans form or the nearly S-cis form.
