Equimolar quantities of bromine and acetylcyclopentadienemanganesetricarbonyl (CMT) react to form α-bromoacetyl-CMT.

Five functional derivatives of α-bromoacetyl-CMT were synthesized.

Chlorination of CMT and acetyl-CMT leads to disruption of the ferrocene structure to form, among other decomposition products, a chloride of the composition [Mn(CO)4]2Cl2.
