Summary
-
1.
Isotopic exchange of hydrogen in cyclohexane was investigated with the use of gaseous deuterium. The exchange was carried out over neodymium oxide at atmospheric pressure in the temperature range 157–553°.
-
2.
Appreciable deuterium exchange starts at 400°; at 512° the total yield of C6H12−xDx is more than 41%.
-
3.
The distribution of deuterium-substituted cyclohexanes was investigated with the aid of the mass spectrometer. About 98.5% of the deuterium entering into cyclohexane is accounted for by D1, D2, and D3, 0.7% is accounted for by D4, and 0.8% by the remaining deuterocyclohexanes.
