Alkylation of the silver salt of trinitromethane with secondary and tertiary alkyl halides

Conclusions

In the reaction of isopropyl iodide or tert-butyl chloride with the silver salt of trinitromethane, the trinitromethane anion is alkylated only at the oxygen atom of a nitro group.
