Conclusions
-
1.
A scheme of a circulating apparatus was developed for a study of the reaction kinetics of the telomerization of ethylene with carbon tetrachloride.
-
2.
The rate of initiation (formation of CC13 radicals) is proportional to the H2 and CC14 concentrations. The apparent activation energy of this reaction is 16.8 kcal/mole.
-
3.
The particular constants of chain transfer of the first three telomeric radicals are in satisfactory agreement with the constants obtained in the usual method of initiation of the telomerization reaction. This indicates that the reactions of chain transfer and propagation occur in the volume, and not on the surface of the catalyst. A quadratic mechanism of chain termination was established, which also confirms the occurrence of the radical reactions of chain transfer and propagation in the volume.
