Synthesis of ethers and esters of 1, 2-et henediol and their reactions

Summary

  1. 1.

    Methods for the synthesis of dimethoxyethylene were worked out.

  2. 2.

    Dimethoxyethylene, like other vinyl ethers, condenses with alcohols including ethylene glycol, with orthoformic ester, with acetals, and with carbon tetrachloride.

  3. 3.

    Methoxyacetaldehyde and bromoacetaldehyde acetals do not condense with vinyl ethers, but undergo an exchange of acetal groups.

  4. 4.

    A method was worked out for the synthesis of triacetoxyethane, and 1,2-diacetoxyethylene was prepared for the first time.
