The decomposition of organic substances by metallic potassium

Part 2. A new method for determining phosphorus

  • Published:
Bulletin of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, Division of chemical science Aims and scope

Summary

  1. 1.

The fusion of organic compounds with metallic potassium has been used in the decomposition of organophosphorus compounds to determine phosphorus.

  2. 2.

Conditions have been found for stabilizing the resulting potassium phosphide in alkali solution and conditions for oxidizing the phosphide to phosphate.

  3. 3.

Phosphate has been determined by amperometric titration with uranyl acetate using a mercury electrode. Phosphorus can be determined in the presence of S, Hal, N, Me, Si. The error of the method is. ±0.3%,
