Zusammenfassung

Anhand der LCAO—MO-Näherung wird die Elektronenstruktur des π-Komplexes diskutiert, der sich im Verlauf derDiels—Alder-Reaktion zwischen Dien und Dienophil bildet. Am Beispiel der Umsetzung des Cyclopentadiens mit verschiedenen Dienophilen und des Maleinanhydrids mit verschiedenen Dienen wird aufgezeigt, daß im π-Komplex die Dienkomponente positiv, das Dienophil hingegen negativ geladen ist. Der Polarisations-grad steht in Wechselbeziehung zur Delokalisationsenergie des jeweiligen π-Komplexes. Dieses Ergebnis dürfte höchstwahrscheinlich mit der für die Diensynthese spezifischen Topologie des Reaktionskomplexes zusammenhängen und steht im Einklang sowohl mit derWoodward-Hypothese als auch mit der Theorie des Kryptoradikal-Mechanismus der Reaktion.

Abstract

On the basis of the LCAO—MO method (Hückel approximation) the electronic structure of the π-complex is discussed, which is formed between a diene and a dienophile in the course of theDiels—Alder reaction.

On the example of the interaction of cyclopentadiene with various dienophiles and of maleic anhydride with various dienes, it is shown that in the π-complex the diene component is charged positively, while the dienophilic one—negatively. The degree of polarization correlates with the delocalisation energy of the corresponding π-complex. This result most probably is related to the topology of the reaction complex, which is typical of the diene synthesis. This is in comformity both with the hypothesis ofWoodward and with the theory of the crypto-radicalic mechanism of this reaction.
