Electromagnetic radiation characteristics during fatigue crack propagation and failure

Abstract

Each new crack tip created during the fatigue crack propagation and failure of SAE 1045 steel specimens, emits distinct electromagnetic pulse of recordable amplitude. This characteristic can be employed in designing a new non-contact crack growth monitor for studying the fatigue characteristics of metals and alloys.
