Abstract
An isothermic section (900° C) of the ternary system Cerium-Silicon-Germanium was examined by means of X-ray diffraction, the alloys being prepared by sintering. The crystal structure of the binary phases have been confirmed. Ce5Si3 (Cr5B3-type) dissolves up to 60 Mole-% Ce5Ge3, while the latter exhibits a homogenous region up to 30 Mole-% Ce5Si3. The Si/Ge-substitution is not significant for Ce3Si2 and Ce∼1,2Si. On the other hand there are complete series of solutions for CeSi−CeGe and CeSi2−CeGe2 (having α-ThSi2-type). Ge/Si-substitution decreases the orthorhombic splitting of CeGe2 having GdSi2-type.
